II. THEMATIC BACKGROUND

The Committee defined its purpose as encouraging health forestlands in Missouri.  Then, as a way of organizing the work, they defined a vision of the future if that purpose were actually achieved.  From that vision, several themes were defined which form the basis for the organization of this section.  Those themes are:

  1. Sustainable Forest Land base
  2. Sustainably Managed Forests
  3. Sustainable Economic and Social Impacts
  4. Environmental Sustainability
  5. Education, Training and Professional management
  6. Freedom of Choice

The Thematic Background is organized by those themes.  The following diagram illustrates the relationship of these themes to the basic purpose of encouraging health forestslands.
