In 2012, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources celebrated the opening of Battle of Island Mound State Historic Site near Butler, which interprets the first time that African American troops fought in Civil War combat. We recently completed work on “The Battle of Island Mound,” a short film that expands our efforts to educate about the battle. Learn more about Battle of Island Mound State Historic Site. Lincoln University is located in Jefferson City at 820 Chestnut Street.
