The Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ Brownfields / Voluntary Cleanup Program is hosting this one-day conference at the Missouri Department of Natural Resources meeting rooms at 1730 E. Elm St. in Jefferson City. There is no fee to attend the conference, but registration is required. The conference is aimed at local and regional government officials, not-for-profit economic and community development organizations, and anyone else interested in learning more about Brownfields.
This one-day conference covering all things Brownfields including a basic course on identifying brownfields in your community and identifying resources for assessing, remediating and redeveloping brownfield properties.
A major challenge for many communities is the redevelopment of the downtown area and other parts of the city. We would like to assist your community and your efforts in economic improvement and revitalization of under-used properties.
One daunting task of redevelopment is to understand the environmental issues of the properties in the downtown area and throughout your community. Most older buildings have lead-based-paint and asbestos based building materials or insulation. Depending upon the businesses that have been located in those buildings or on vacant lots, there may be a variety of petroleum, chemicals, and other hazardous material contamination. Fortunately, Missouri has some excellent assistance programs to address environmental investigation and, if needed, contamination cleanup. The 2013 Missouri Brownfields Conference will provide the information and contacts to confidently pursue your community vision.
As a community leader, you will learn about Brownfields in your community and how the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Brownfield Assessment and Voluntary Cleanup Programs, and other federal, state and local programs, can help your community.
Again, space is limited so register now.
