Hazardous Waste Program
Tank Registration Fees and Certification
The Tanks Section collects $15 per year per underground storage tank, assessed on a rotating basis during a five-year period. The five year registration period begins Oct. 1 and ends Sept. 30. Facilities are invoiced on or before Sept. 1 of the first year of the registration period.
A Certificate of Registration is issued to the facility that meets all compliance criteria. The following criteria are considered before issuing a certificate:
- Registration fees must be paid in full
- An acceptable method of financial responsibility must be in place
- There can be no enforcement action pending
- All tanks currently in use must meet performance standards for corrosion, spill, and overfill protection, and for leak detection
A certificate of registration is necessary to own or operate USTs in Missouri. The tanks at the facility must be kept in compliance with the requirements of the Missouri Code of State Regulations, 10 CSR 26-2 and 10 CSR 26-3, and Sections 319.100 to 319.137 of the Missouri Revised Statutes. If at any time the facility fails to comply with the provisions of the regulations, the certificate may be invalidated.
