Waste Reduction and Recycling Targeted Grants Ending
Last Updated Jan. 30, 2007
The passage of Senate Bill 225 in 2005 terminated the Waste Reduction and Recycling (WRandR) Project Grants. The final 35 projects in the program are on their way towards completion.
Legislation creating the WRandR Project Grants (Senate Bill 530) was passed in 1990. The bill set a goal of 40 percent diversion of solid wastes going to Missouri Landfills by 1998. These grants provided financial assistance to Missouri’s residents to create waste reduction and recycling projects to help reach this goal.
Financial assistance has been provided through WRandR Project Grants for 13 years. The first grant call began in Fiscal Year 1993 with the selection of 40 projects. When the remaining WRandR Project Grants are completed, a total of 390 projects will have been financed through this program.
WRandR Project Grants along with the District Grants were instrumental in achieving the State’s waste diversion goal. In fact, by Fiscal Year 2004, the diversion rate reached 47 percent. Missouri’s residents, in large part, deserve credit for the success this program.
