Common Ground Forums in Kansas City Region
The Kansas City Metropolitan Region includes the Missouri counties of Jackson, Clay Platte and Cass. There are areas of rapid urbanization, both residential and commercial in these counties. Water quality concerns associated with this development include stream and sediment issues caused by increases in stormwater run-off, impervious surfaces, alterations in natural drainage, stream degradation, and stream corridor issues.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Missouri Department of Conservation will use funding to support two workshops targeted at developers, builders and professionals in stormwater. The purpose is to introduce the methods and benefits of Best Management Practices (BMP's) to these professionals so they can incorporate these BMP's in future planning and development. Also, funding will be used to develop publications and information packets that support these workshops and also for use by others.
OBJECTIVES
1. One-day workshop for approximately 100 stormwater professional.
2. One-day workshop for approximately 100 developers and builders.
3. Related publications and packets for 200 meeting participants.
PRODUCTS
Workshop evaluation results for the two workshops will be measured to understand how effective these workshops are in changing attitudes of participants. These evaluations will give an indication of possible BMP implementation in the future by attendees of these workshops. Summaries of this evaluation will be submitted to the department.
