Project Description:

ENVIRONMENTAL RENDEZVOUS 2001 PROGRAM

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The minigrant funds will be used to support a program that will enhance the knowledge of students, teachers and the public on environmental issues that effect Dardenne Creek in St. Charles County. A workshop, water quality sampling and expenses to reimburse substitute teachers who will be assisting with the program are being supported. During the Dardenne Day event, teams will be required to maintain scientific journals and will report all data to Brookside Environmental Services who will supervise the event.

PRODUCTS AND OBJECTIVES

The activity will give students an interactive experience, make them aware of the environment and allow them to become stakeholders in the health of Dardenne Creek. Water quality sampling data will be shared with the public to make them aware of any nonpoint source water pollution issues that are associated with Dardenne Creek.

Introductory and level two stream monitoring certification workshops followed with 27 miles of water quality monitoring of the Dardenne watershed are planned. This special monitoring of the entire 27 miles of the Dardenne watershed will cover ten parameters.
