Cause Marketing Alliance for Clean Water in Southwest Missouri
Southwest Missouri has long been renowned for its pristine streams and clear lakes. Recent rapid urban growth and increased livestock production have led to nonpoint source pollution of the waters in this area resulting in several of the waters being included on the 303(d) impaired waters listing.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Watershed Committee of the Ozarks, with funding from this minigrant, will help sponsor a radio campaign to promote public awareness of water quality in Southwest Missouri. The Watershed Committee of the Ozarks, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and Clear Channel Communications have created a nonpoint source pollution public awareness campaign that began the week before Earth Day and will continue through the fall of 2001. This funding will support public service announcements aired on five different radio stations. Radio reaches a large listening audience and repeated messages will educate the people in the area about the impact they can make in lessening nonpoint source pollution in their watersheds. The audience will include those in the areas of the James River Basin, Sac River Basin, Pierson's Creek, Table Rock Lake, Stockton Lake, Bull Shoals Lake, Lake Taneycomo and parts of the Lake of the Ozarks. The sixty-second radio spots will include pertinent information about the water quality problems, advice on individual steps to reduce the problems, identification of sponsoring organizations, and a venue to access further information.
OBJECTIVES
The objective of this project is to reach a large audience through a radio marketing campaign to educate people in Southwest Missouri about nonpoint source pollution. The frequency of the public service announcements will engage citizens in recognizing day-to-day activities they can implement to improve water quality, by reduction of nonpoint source pollution.
PRODUCTS
The products will include radio public service announcements on five different radio stations (125 sixty-second announcements) provided as a CD. Additional announcements will be provided as match.
