Project Description:

White River Basin Radio Promotion

The White River flows through the heart of the Ozarks. While much of the river lies in Arkansas, its large northerly bend brings it into southwestern Missouri. Within Missouri, the entire reach of the river has been impounded by dams forming Table Rock Lake, Lake Taneycomo and the upper portion of Bull Shoals Lake. Livestock, tourists and rising numbers of permanent residents are increasing challenges in the area of nonpoint source pollution, which will be addressed at the conference.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Watershed Committee of the Ozarks, with funding from this minigrant, will help sponsor a radio promotion to increase public awareness of the White River Basin conference to be held November 5, 2001. The promotion will urge citizens to attend the conference and participate in review and discussion of water quality issues such as nonpoint source pollution and its impact on their watersheds. The radio public service announcements for the conference will be aired on five different stations during the promotion. The sixty-second radio spots will include pertinent information about the conference and will reach the cities of Springfield, Lebanon, Rolla, Camdenton, Bolivar, Carthage, Joplin, and Branson, Missouri and also Mt. Home and Harrison, Arkansas. It is projected that 138,500 adults (5.1) time will be reached with this promotion.

OBJECTIVES

The objective of this project is to reach a large audience throughout Southwest Missouri and Northwest Arkansas, through radio promotion of the White River Basin Conference. The frequency of the public service announcements will alert citizens of the upcoming conference and make them aware of topics to be discussed such as nonpoint source pollution.

PRODUCTS

The products will include radio public service announcements on five different radio stations (125 sixty-second announcements) provided as a CD. Additional announcements will be provided as match.
