Teacher Training: NPS Water Quality Education

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project will complement a teachers-only course, Introductory Water Quality Monitoring, which will be delivered by the Missouri Stream Team Program. Thirty-five secondary teachers will be trained through the course, which is to be held in Columbia, Missouri. Each teacher will identify and map 303(d) water resources in watersheds of the, or an adjacent, county of their school district. Ways to involve students in monitoring projects will be brainstormed. Lists of learning resources will be provided to the teachers. The teachers will be prepared to serve as the conduit of information linking students to web sites, state agencies and environmental organizations with water quality projects. Teachers will leave the workshop with useful ideas for the integration of the course content and learning resources in the secondary schools.
