Developing Interactive Watershed Information Websites for Science Educators and Students
This project will use the Internet to provide watershed education to children in Grades 4-8. Interactive watershed information web sites will be developed and disseminated to schools (Grades 4-8) in the Elk River, James River, North Fork Salt River, Sac River and Spring River watershed basins. The expected outcome is that children will begin to take interest in and act to protect and preserve natural resources. The objectives will include:
1. Providing information to increase awareness of and encourage participation in watershed stewardship activities;
2. Increase knowledge and understanding about watersheds and their natural resources;
3. Facilitate development of skills to identify and prevent possible nonpoint source pollution; and
4. Encourage participation in watershed restoration activities.
This project will provide an additional tool for educators to improve their science education library collections and integrate watershed education into their current curriculum.
