KC Clean Streams and the Clean Water Celebration
The Blue River Watershed Association has offered watershed education and action oppertunities to over ten thousand students and the communtiy. This education has occurred through water quality monitoring, stream clean-up projects and student conferences, learning fairs, storm drain stenciling projects, restoration projects, public outreach and leadership training.
Project Description Students form the Greater KC Metropolitan area will be provided trash bags, and gloves for the KC Clean Streams event. During this one day effort, stream trash will be picked up and removed from the site. Teachers are provided with packets to focus on nonpoint source pollution and awareness of stream health.
Objectives
The objective of this project is to reach students from 3 counties in the Blue River Watershed for a day of stream cleanup, and education about nonpoint source pollution. Teachers and community members will engage students in recognizing day-to-day activities they can implement to improve water quality, by reduction of nonpoint source pollution.
Products
Pre and Post surveys of students and teachers are conducted to determine how NPS pollution impacts stream health. Amount of litter removed and location of clean-ups will be reported in Quarterly reports, and on the www.brwa.net website.
