Project Description:

STORM DRAIN MARKER G-03-NPS-14

The Metropolitan Sewer District has very successfully implemented drain marker efforts in the past with cooperation from service organizations and volunteers. MSD believes that the public is very receptive to information on protection of the environment and open to small changes in behavior that can have substantive benefits to water quality.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project will fund the purchase and installation of 2,000 drain markers at storm drains in St. Louis County, public education via flyer distribution in areas to be marked, and community outreach via service organization participation in the project.

OBJECTIVE

Installation of 2,000 drain markers in St. Louis County to identify drains as no dumping allowed and to increase public awareness, education and participation in the reduction of nonpoint source pollution from urban storm water flow.

METHODS EMPLOYED

Project will result in the installation of 2,000 drain markers notifying citizens that dumping at drains results in water pollution. MDS will develop and distribute an educational flyer designed to make the reader think about storm water drainage and its direct link to streams and lakes. This project is primarily an educational project that has the potential to enlighten many citizens.
