ENVIROCAMP FOR YOUTH - BUCHANAN COUNTY
A 4-H camp designed specifically to address environmental issues relating to
nonpoint sources of pollution in a watershed.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Envirocamp is a 4-H camp located at Crowder State Park designed to address environmental issues relating to nonpoint source pollution in a watershed. This two day experience provided 110 children with opportunities to learn about ways they can recognize, reduce and prevent water pollution through a variety of activities. This event included experiences with stream teams, carbon dioxide powered boat races, recycling, understanding watershed and ground water movement, stream dynamics, use of enviroscape watershed model, and a water quality computer learning lab.
PRODUCT AND OBJECTIVES
Educate 110 children so they will understand the watershed concept by participating in active learning experiences designed to teach the impact of human activity in watersheds. Participants will recognize their personal responsibility in water pollution prevention and watershed protection.
Students will be able to:
-describe what a watershed is,
-learn at least one aspect of pollution prevention,
-50% of students will share the information they learn with 4-H clubs.
