Common Bulrush
Scirpus atrovirens

Common bulrush, also called dark green bulrush, and gray-head bulrush is a native plant that grows up to 5 feet tall, but generally 3 to 4 feet. The plant blooms from May to September with brown flowers. The roots were used as a food source by Native Americans and pioneers. Ducks will eat the seeds. Seeds have been known to remain viable for at least 40 years.
