Cup plant is a native plant reaching a height of 4 to 8 feet. It produces a yellow bloom on the upper part of the plant from July to September. Flower heads are up to 3 inches in diameter with 20-40 light-yellow rays and darker-yellow center disks. Leaf pairs are united at the bases of the stem, forming a cup (hence the common name) and will collect rain-water. This species is also called cup rosin weed because its stems release a gummy sap when broken or cut.
