Prairie dogbane is a native plant reaching a height of 2 to 4 feet. The plant blooms from July to August with white to green blooms. Dogbane is considered toxic to humans (and the bane of dogs). The roots were commonly harvested in the 19th and early 20th centuries for a variety of folk medicine and medical purposes. Stems are fibrous and were once used to make rope. Very attractive to butterflies.
