Plains Coreopsis
Coreopsis tinctoria

Plains coreopsis, sometimes known as painted daisy or tickseed, is widely planted and very common in Missouri. The plant reaches a height of 2 to 3 feet. The plant blooms from June to September with yellow or yellow-orange flowers with dark purple base flowers. Natives made a tea from the flowers and it is said that early settlers placed this plant in their mattresses to repel fleas and bedbugs.
