Sycamore
Platanus occidentalis

The sycamore is a native tree reaching a height of 75 to 100 feet (occasionly 150 feet) with a trunk diameter from 3 to 8 feet (up to a record 16 feet). Flowers appear on sycamores in small, rounded clusters in April. Male flowers are yellowish and female flowers are reddish. Female flowers form fruiting balls that ripen to brown in October and remain into early winter. Native Americans hollowed out trunk sections for dugout canoes.
