Timothy is a weedy species found throughout Missouri reaching a height of 2 to 3.5 feet. The plant flowers from May to August and the airborne pollen is one of the greatest causes of hay fever in early summer. The plant is native to Europe and was was first introduced in the U.S. by early settlers. Timothy Hanson began promoting the plant as a hay crop around 1720. The common name of this plant is "Timothy."
