Yellow wood sorrel, also known as sour grass, is a native plant usually about 6 inches tall, but sometimes reaches 1 foot or a little more. It flowers from April to June, and sometimes again in September. Natives called yellow wood sorrel "salt weed" and chewed the leaves to alleviate thirst. Some tribes boiled the plant to make a yellowish-orange dye.
