Jeff Jaquess, Bernard Thompson, Scott Tackett, Clarice Morgan, Saundra Farrow, Glenda Crymes, Robert Clay, Llona Weiss, Valerie Johnson, Walter Pearson, Steve Mahfood, Kenny Seeney, Terry Sheffield, Jeff Staake, Tanya Black, Kevin Johnson, Steve Wyatt, Jan Douglas, G. Lawson Penny, David Bahadori, Maxine Harriman, Nina Thompson, Alice Geller

The meeting began at 10:25 a.m. with the December meeting minutes being read and approved.

G. Lawson Penny informed the MAC that Tom Kruse is hospitalized and that he would send our best wishes to him.

Walter Pearson shared Executive Order 98-21 requesting "all state agencies to make every feasible effort to increase the percentage of goods and services procured from certified minority and women-owned businesses to 10 percent and 5 percent respectively." A copy was given to MAC Secretary Terry Sheffield, and anyone desiring a copy should contact her.

Valerie Johnson talked about internships and summer employment and the differences. DNR hopes to bring the minority scholarship program into the plans. There was discussion regarding the MAC sending a representative to the meetings regarding these issues.

Alice Geller talked about the strategic plan development and stated that diversity is part of the DNR director's agenda, especially in regard to our workforce and minority purchases. Geller explained the structure of the strategic plan and how issues are broken down and plans are made to accomplish objectives. Geller acknowledged MAC's interest in the strategic plan and urged our body to develop our own to be included in the department's plan. Steve Mahfood interjected that he hopes the MAC sees the strategic plan as a useful tool and commends the committee for wanting to be involved. Penny informed meeting attendees that there will be a retreat in May in Warrensburg to discuss the MAC's strategic plan.

Kenny Seeney discussed this year's Diversity Conference noting we are working on confirming speakers, facilitators and resource persons. Seeney also reported on the Multicultural Opportunities Festival held in Springfield on Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday holiday. Three employees from the Southwest Regional Office, Seeney, David Bahadori and Jan Douglas worked the MAC booth and served approximately 2,000 people. Our booth seemed to be the most frequented at the event (perhaps because of the popularity of the DGLS trading cards).

Johnson stated that her role as Human Relations Officer is being defined, and she will have an outline out soon. Johnson was asked to come to a future meeting and discuss the Employee Advisory Council, which she informed us will have a MAC member to help frame and upon which a MAC member will participate.

Kevin Johnson provided a Calendar Subcommittee report and also mentioned there are two articles in the current issue of Inner Resources.

Tanya Black distributed a Fiscal Year 1999 Budget and Expenditures report and a proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2000.

After a brief break, Bahadori presented a video of his vacation to Italy.

Terry Sheffield reported she is working on the April meeting in Rolla, during which we hope to have an international foods festival.

The next meeting will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at the Lincoln University Library in Jefferson City.

These minutes were recorded by Sheffield, secretary.
