Kevin Johnson passed around the Valerie Davis e-mail about Black Expo 2001 scheduled for August 25-26 in St. Louis. Mr. Jaquess will post on the MAC Intranet web page.

Budget Officer, Steve Wyatt mentioned that there were no distribution documents yet. Approved budget for 2002 is $13,250. Vendor packets must be turned in for reimbursements. Examples of vendor packets were distributed.

Mr. Wyatt said on the back of the agenda, was a budget example with fall budget and 10-20-30 percent budget cuts. There was discussion on budget, advertising, and how some 2002 supplies have already been bought. Mr. Wyatt got the actual numbers for 2001 expenditures. MAC members looked over the budget and submitted comments before submitting 2003 budget for Executive Staff. The Diversity Conference estimates the same number of speakers and facilitators $700 total. The facilitator’s dinner costs approximately $310. Julius Johnson mentioned that it would be nice to have the Diversity Conference when Missouri Senate and House are in session. With the proposed budget cuts, it was suggested that we take money away from some areas and give to others. Tanya Black made a motion to approve budget with actual budget numbers for presentation to Executive Staff, and motion carried.

Committee reports:

Diversity Conference 2001 report presented by Kenny Seeney. It was good and more improved with 300+ attendees. The conference was under budget this year. People liked the color photos on the MAC web page. Attendees commented on the Women’s History poster article for Inner Resources. Missouri Department of Natural Resources staff enjoyed having First Lady Lori Holden as a speaker and high marks for all speakers. The Lincoln University Jazz ensemble was well received. Attendees did not like the poor partitions and curtains that separated some speakers. It made it too noisy. One group accidentally went to the wrong room.

Mr. Seeney also commented on the Women’s History poster. An article about the poster was in the Jefferson City News Tribune. There were 250 posters printed, and 235 have been distributed statewide. DNR State Park Ranger, Bob Mesa, presented a beautiful framed poster to Cris Medina, executive director of the Guadalupe Center during Cinco de Mayo ceremonies in Kansas City. The Diversity Conference committee plans to meet July 19, 2001, at 10:30 a.m.

Jeff Jaquess gave a Calendar Committee report. Mr. Jaquess showed an example of desktop vs. hanging wall calendar that will cost more but will be in a much larger format. Mr. Jaquess is meeting with Bill Houston at the State Printing Center to discuss costs.

There was no Policy Committee report although Dick Gaffney and Gary Penny have been reviewing EAC and Policy Review statements.

Ms. Black mentioned that the EAC hopes to have an Intranet Web site soon, so people can comment about policy statements. The Director’s Office Task Force also is working on policy statements.

New Business – adjust people from one committee to another. The secretary offered to send committee assignments to members.

On August 1, Steven Wyatt will be absent. Tom Kruse is on permanent disability. MAC will send card to him.

Kevin Johnson requested people send him information for the MAC archives. The Women’s Poster, past calendars and giveaways are already there.

A motion to adjourn the meeting was voted on and approved at 2:40 p.m.

These minutes were recorded by Mr. Jaquess.
