Missouri Department of Natural Resources Director Stephen A. Mahfood, in Jefferson City, Sept. 20, 2001, welcomed people from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region VII office (EPA) and Lincoln University (LU) to a luncheon meeting in the Governor State Office Building. Bill Rice, Deputy Regional Administrator for the EPA Region VII office, spoke at the luncheon about the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the department, LU, and his office.
Multicultural Affairs Committee (MAC) Chair Kevin Johnson helped represent the department.
Namia Halim-Chestnut, EPA Black Employment Program attended the ceremony.
Multicultural Affairs Committee (MAC) Chair Kevin Johnson, environmental specialist with the department, welcomed attendees from EPA and LU, and spoke about the department's MAC organizational structure, and the department's MAC-initiated annual Diversity Conference. Namia Halim-Chestnut, EPA Black Employment Program chairman and environmental protection specialist, also spoke at the MOU luncheon.

The purpose of the MOU is to formalize and strengthen ties among the EPA, Lincoln University (LU), and the department, by creating a partnership. The partnership will enhance LU's research and education capabilities, and help EPA to achieve its mission.

The partnership program described in the MOU provides ways for LU to develop a broad range of activities. The activities will strengthen and increase education, scientific, and technical programs managed by the university.

Footnote: Following the luncheon, there was a roundtable discussion between members of the department's Multicultural Affairs Committee (MAC) and members of EPA's regional office diversity program, sharing with each other the organizational points and purposes of each.
