MEDIA ADVISORY: Department to co-host northwest Missouri Regional Water System Symposium

WHO: The Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Water Partnership for Northwest Missouri, Northwest Missouri Regional Council of Governments.

WHAT: Water Symposium IV targets 83 water systems in northwest Missouri to discuss the proposed regional drinking water grid and the development of the Great Northwest Wholesale Water Commission.

WHEN: 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 30.

WHERE: Student Union Ballroom, Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville

WHY:  A recent study has confirmed the feasibility of a plan developed by the Water Partnership for Northwest Missouri to provide safe, dependable, affordable water to the region.  The results of this study will be shared at the Water Symposium IV.

The Great Northwest Wholesale Water Commission has been formed to pursue implementation of this project.  The commission membership will consist of representatives from participating local water districts and communities. Three local water districts have already pledged membership in the new commission; others have expressed an interest in joining. 

Symposium IV is expected to draw approximately 200 participants from 12 counties including leaders from water boards, city and county governments and legislators. There is no charge to attend the symposium but registration is required. To register, contact Jerri Dearmont at or call 660.582.5121.
