WHO: Missouri Department of Natural Resources

WHAT: 15th annual Earth Day celebration

WHEN: Friday, April 24, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WHERE: South lawn of the Missouri State Capitol building

WHY: The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will welcome more than 1,200 fifth graders from all over Missouri to the 15th annual Earth Day celebration. Earth Day is targeted toward students, but the event is free and open to the public, as well.

The Department sponsors the event and is being joined by nine other local, state and federal agencies with booths, exhibits, interactive displays and stage shows. Stage shows will include the Department of Natural Resources' "garage band" The Earth-Tones and Environmental Survivor, hosted by KAT Country 94.3 morning show hosts Kevin Hilley and Erin Hart.

The Department has set up a Web page for media outlets to obtain pictures and additional information about the event. Photos from this year's celebration will be uploaded by 4 p.m. on April 25. They can be viewed at


Note to Editors: At the time of this advisory, 64 classes from 29 schools in 13 counties have registered to attend the 2008 Earth Day event. Schools have registered from the following counties:  Adair, Boone, Callaway, Camden, Cole, Cooper, Crawford, Maries, Miller, Morgan, Moniteau, Newton, Osage, Phelps, Pulaski and Randolph.
