JEFFERSON CITY, MO, APRIL 30, 2009 -- Gov. Jay Nixon announced the Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded the city of Everton in Dade County a $51,124 grant. During tough economic times, this infusion of grant funding will help Everton protect its citizens and the environment by making necessary wastewater improvements.
The city will use the grant funds for wastewater facility improvements, which include construction of an ultraviolet disinfection system, standby power and flood protection. The city will use the grant funds in conjunction with a Missouri Department of Natural Resources small borrower loan. The project is estimated to cost $136,815 and is expected to be completed in August 2009.
The Department sold $50 million in bonds in November 2007. The sale of the bonds allows the Department to provide cities and municipalities with grant funds to support the Clean Water Initiative for water and wastewater improvements.
The Department of Natural Resources' Water Protection Program will administer the grant funds. The Department is committed to working closely with communities to assist with funding efforts that support water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects as well as provide a financial savings.
