JEFFERSON CITY, MO, -- Gov. Jay Nixon announced the Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded the Sullivan County Public Water Supply District #1 with a $500,000 grant. During tough economic times, this infusion of grant funding will help the district protect its citizens and the environment by making necessary drinking water improvements.
The district will use the grant and local funds to pay for the water system improvements, which include the addition of three new storage tanks, replacement of two booster stations and replacement of transmission mains. The project is estimated to cost $3.9 million and is expected to be completed in March 2010.
The Department sold $50 million in bonds in November 2007. The sale of the bonds allows the Department to provide the district with the grant funds to support the Clean Water Initiative for water and wastewater improvements.
The Department of Natural Resources' Water Protection Program will administer the grant funds. The Department is committed to working closely with communities to assist with funding efforts that support water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects as well as provide a financial savings.
