JEFFERSON CITY, MO., – Recognized for her commitment as the Department's only trail coordinator, Kelley Brent, Division of State Parks, planning and development, has been named June 2009 Employee of the Month by the Department of Natural Resources.
In nominating Brent for recognition, Cari Gerlt, management analyst specialist for the Division of State Parks, said, "From her years of coaching softball at the university level, she brought with her a game plan that keeps state parks winning every time -- when they hired Kelley, they hit a home run!"
Brent has blended her daily duties as trail coordinator with several new projects, such as assisting with reconstruction at Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park, and also handles the grants that fund some of them. She follows what she calls "the three C's -- character, consistency and communication."
Brent also favors innovation. She saw the need for a trail inventory system and knew how much the state would benefit by developing a database that included all trail information -- features present on each trail, total length, various uses, current conditions and accurate maps that could be used to make brochures and park signs. The project is about 60 percent complete and Brent is on schedule with her projected completion date.
Brent has been a park operations and planning coordinator with the Department since June 2006. She resides in Holts Summit.
