JEFFERSON CITY, MO, -- Gov. Jay Nixon announced the Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded the city of New London in Ralls County with a $93,583 grant.  During tough economic times, this infusion of loan and grant funding will help New London protect its citizens and the environment by making necessary wastewater improvements.

The city will use the grant to construct a chlorination and dechlorination disinfection facility at the existing wastewater treatment lagoon.  The project is estimated to cost $187,166 and is expected to be completed in October 2009.  The city will provide matching funds to pay for the project.

The Department sold $50 million in bonds in November 2007.  The sale of the bonds allows the Department to provide cities and municipalities with grant funds to support the Clean Water Initiative for water and wastewater improvements.

The Department of Natural Resources' Water Protection Program will administer the grant funds.  The Department is committed to working closely with communities to assist with funding efforts that support water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects as well as provide a financial savings.
