JEFFERSON CITY, MO, -- Gov. Jay Nixon announced the Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded the city of Eldon in Miller County with a $28,000 rural sewer grant. During tough economic times, this infusion of grant funding will help Eldon protect its citizens and the environment by making necessary wastewater improvements.
The city of Eldon will use the grant to construct new wastewater pressure collection lines. The project is estimated to cost $475,900 and is expected to be completed in November 2009. This city will use the grant in conjunction with a $447,900 Clean Water State Revolving Fund loan previously issued by the Department in 2006.
The Department sold $50 million in bonds in November 2007. The sale of the bonds allows the Department to provide cities and municipalities with grant funds to support the Clean Water Initiative for water and wastewater improvements.
The Department of Natural Resources' Water Protection Program will administer the grant funds. The Department is committed to working closely with communities to assist with funding efforts that support water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects as well as provide a financial savings.
