JEFFERSON CITY, MO., SEPT. 10, 2009 -- Load up the kids and head to St. Francois State Park for a day full of outdoor activities followed by a fun concert. Family Play Day will be held Saturday, Sept. 19 at the park, which is near Bonne Terre. Sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the fun begins at 1 p.m. in the ball field day-use area and is free and open to the public.
Upon arrival, you will be given a map of the area with different stations for each activity. You can visit as many stations as you like. Activities will include creek exploration, Wiffle® ball and scavenger hunts. Naturalists will also lead geocaching, fishing and birdwatching activities at designated times. You will go away from the event with many ideas on how to spend time outdoors together as a family.
At 6:30 p.m., Wild Heart will take the stage for a family-friendly concert in the campground. This Emmy award-winning group is known for educational songs about nature. Bring a lawn chair for the concert.
St. Francois State Park is located on U.S. Highway 67 just four miles north of Bonne Terre.
