Public invited to a hearing for a proposed solid waste construction permit for Fred Weber Sanitary Landfill in St. Louis County

JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will hold a public hearing on the draft solid waste disposal area construction permit for Fred Weber Inc. The public hearing will begin at 7 p.m. on Nov. 12, at the Maryland Heights Centre, 2344 McKelvey Rd. in Maryland Heights.
The Fred Weber Sanitary Landfill has applied for a permit to construct a horizontal expansion of its existing facility in St. Louis County. The site is located ½ mile south of Interstate 70 and east of the Earth City Expressway in the Village of Champ. The facility consists of 524 acres of which the landfill disposal area is approximately 254 acres. Fred Weber will use the proposed facility for the disposal of municipal solid waste, nonhazardous household, commercial, agricultural, governmental, industrial, construction and demolition wastes.
Citizens may review a copy of the draft solid waste disposal area construction permit at the St. Louis County Library, Bridgeton Trails Branch, 3455 McKelvey Road, Bridgeton. A copy for review is also available upon request at the department's Solid Waste Management Program Record Center, 1730 E. Elm St. in Jefferson City.
The department's Solid Waste Management Program reviews all applications submitted by cities, counties and private owners to ensure solid waste disposal areas are properly designed and constructed. Other technical factors that protect Missouri's environment also are examined.
