Public invited to a hearing for proposed solid waste construction permit for Lemons Sanitary Landfill in Stoddard County

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, NOV. 19, 2009 -- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will hold a public hearing on the draft solid waste disposal area construction permit for Lemons Landfill LLC. The public hearing will begin at 7 p.m. on Dec. 1 at Dexter High School, 1101 W. Grant St. in Dexter.
The Lemons Sanitary Landfill has applied for a permit to construct the horizontal expansion of its existing facility in Stoddard County. The proposed site is located at 15250 Old Bloomfield Road, about one mile north of US Highway 60 in Dexter. It consists of 282.65 acres, of which the landfill disposal area is approximately 106.6 acres. The proposed facility will be used for the disposal of municipal solid waste, nonhazardous household, commercial, agricultural, governmental, industrial, construction and demolition wastes.
The department reviews all applications submitted by cities, counties and private owners to ensure solid waste landfills and expansions are properly designed and constructed. Technical factors that protect Missouri's environment are also examined.
Citizens may review a copy of the draft solid waste disposal area construction permit at the Keller Public Library, 402 W. Grant in Dexter. A copy for review is also available upon request at the department's Solid Waste Management Program Record Center, 1730 E. Elm St. in Jefferson City.
