Gov. Nixon announces $500,000 water system improvements grant for Rock Port

JEFFERSON CITY, MO APRIL 5, 2010 - Gov. Jay Nixon today announced the Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $500,000 grant to Rock Port for construction of drinking water system improvements.

The city will use the grant to fund the construction of drinking water system improvements, including construction of water main improvements, a water meter reading system and water tank improvements. The funds will be used in conjunction with $577,597 in matching funds from the city. The project is estimated to cost $1,077,597 and is expected to be completed in March 2011.

The department sold $50 million in bonds in November 2007. The sale of the bonds allows the department to provide the city with grant funds to support the Clean Water Initiative for water and wastewater improvements.

The Department of Natural Resources’ Water Protection Program will administer the grant funds. The department is committed to working closely with communities to assist with funding efforts that support water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects as well as provide a financial savings.
