JEFFERSON CITY, MO APRIL 5, 2010 - Gov. Jay Nixon today announced the Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded Burlington Junction a $137,500 grant for the construction of drinking water improvements.
The city will use the grant to fund the construction of drinking water system improvements, including an emergency water connection to Nodaway County Public Water Supply District no. 1. The funds will be used in conjunction with $137,500 provided by the city. The project is estimated to cost $275,000 and is expected to be completed in July.
The department sold $50 million in bonds in November 2007. The sale of the bonds allows the department to provide the city with grant funds to support the Clean Water Initiative for water and wastewater improvements.
The Department of Natural Resources’ Water Protection Program will administer the grant funds. The department is committed to working closely with communities to assist with funding efforts that support water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects as well as provide a financial savings.
