JEFFERSON CITY, MO, MAY 19, 2010--The Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ Solid Waste Management Program will host a public hearing June 3 on the proposed horizontal expansion of the Prairie Valley Landfill near Cuba.
The hearing will be held at 7 p.m. at the Crawford County R-II Elementary School Cafeteria, 1 Wildcat Pride Dr. in Cuba. This meeting, originally scheduled for May 27, was rescheduled for logistical reasons.
The site is located about 3 miles north of Cuba, east of Highway 19. The proposed landfill disposal area would be approximately 36 acres, located on a 213-acre site. The landfill currently has a disposal area of 12 acres on a 22-acre site. The landfill accepts municipal solid waste, non-hazardous household, commercial, agricultural, governmental, industrial, construction and demolition wastes.
The department’s Solid Waste Management Program reviews all application to ensure solid waste disposal areas are properly designed and constructed. Other technical factors that protect Missouri’s environment also are examined.
