JEFFERSON CITY, MO, MAY 27, 2010 – A good deal just got better, as most Missouri consumers receiving appliance rebates under the Energize Missouri Appliance Rebate Program will soon get a nice surprise in the mail – a check for at least $50 more than originally planned. If consumers haven’t reserved their appliance rebate yet, now is the time!
Missouri has raised most rebate amounts being issued under the Energize Missouri Appliance Rebate Program. Rebate checks will be issued to reflect the higher rebate amounts for all qualifying rebate applications since the April 19 start of the program. New rebate applications also will reflect the higher rebate amounts. The department urges Missourians to take advantage of the rebates and shop and reserve their appliance rebate now while rebates are still available.
The bigger rebates are the result of program changes made to encourage more Missouri consumers to take advantage of the rebates and to help consumers offset some of the cost of recycling old appliances charged by some stores. Rebate amounts were raised for all qualifying appliances except for the $500 rebate for solar water heaters. The new rebate amounts for each qualifying appliance include the following:
Appliance Categories |
Rebate Amount |
Category 1 – Space Heating: |
|
Category 2 – Space Cooling: |
|
Category 3 – Water Heating: |
|
Category 4 – Clothes Washers: |
|
Category 5 - Dishwashers: |
|
The maximum total rebate program eligibility for each household was also raised to $1,300 to reflect higher amounts available for each individual appliance. The adjustment in rebate amounts may result in a short delay for the rebate reservations from the first few weeks of the program that are currently being processed.
The Energize Missouri Appliance Rebate Program launched on April 19. Consumers may continue to visit participating appliance retailers and installation contractors to reserve rebates or they may reserve rebates online at MissouriApplianceRebate.com or call toll-free to 877-541-4848 before making their purchase. Limited numbers of rebates are reserved for the online and phone reservation system. Retailers and installation contractors can help residents navigate through the program to reserve a rebate.
Beginning July 1, any remaining rebates will be available only through participating retailers and installation contractors. Consumers will no longer be able to reserve rebates online or through the toll-free number.
With the increased rebate amounts, approximately 40 percent of the funds for the Energize Missouri Appliance Rebate still remain available to consumers, giving Missourians continued opportunities to save when they exchange certain existing household appliances for more efficient ENERGY STAR® qualified appliances. Appliances bearing the ENERGY STAR label are designed to use 10 to 50 percent less energy than standard appliances, resulting in ongoing utility cost savings for the consumer.
Additional information about the Energize Missouri Appliance Rebate Program is available online at MissouriApplianceRebate.com and through a toll-free consumer information line at 877-541-4848. The consumer information line is available from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m Monday through Friday.
Basic Eligibility Requirements
Consumers qualify for a rebate when they meet all of the following conditions:
- Must be a resident of Missouri, 18 years of age or older.
- Must own the property where the appliances will be install, with the exception of clothes washers. Renters are eligible for clothes washer rebates.
- Limited to one appliance per appliance category per address up to a total rebate of $1,300.
- Purchased appliance must be ENERGY STAR rated and qualified.
- Must reserve the rebate and mail it along with all required support documentation within 60 days of making the reservation.
Appliances must have been purchased after the April 19 commencement of the program. Appliances purchased prior to the start of the program are not eligible. New appliances must be a replacement for a comparable item and the old appliance must be recycled. Rebates will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis until all rebate funding is depleted.
Appliance retailers and installation contractors who wish to participate in the rebate program and assist customers with the reservation of rebates may still register with the program. Those interested in registering can do so online at http://retail.missouriappliancerebate.com/ or by calling 877-233-1682.
In addition to the Energize Missouri appliance rebates, consumers may also qualify for additional savings or rebates through their local utility company. Missourians who wish to contact local utilities to explore the availability of utility-based rebates or incentives from their electric or gas utility providers can visit the department’s list of providers on the Web at dnr.mo.gov/pubs/pub2396.pdf
The Energize Missouri Appliance Rebate Program, with its $5.6 million in funding, is part of a larger $300 million federal program aimed at energy conservation, energy efficiency and economic recovery funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
