JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JUNE 2, 2010 -- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources referred the case of Colonial Limestone Inc., to the Missouri Attorney General's Office to pursue legal action for failure to complete reclamation.

The department referred the case against Colonial Limestone Inc., located in Milan, Mo, alleging it has yet to satisfy reclamation standards at two sites totaling 77 acres in Mercer and Putnam counties.

On Sept. 16, 2008, Colonial Limestone Inc., agreed to forfeit the company’s reclamation bond of $42,500.  On Sept 17, 2008, the department revoked the company’s surface mining permit.  Even though the bond for the mining operation has been forfeited, Colonial Limestone Inc., remains obligated under the Land Reclamation Act to complete reclamation of affected areas.  Land Reclamation staff conducted a cost estimate that came to a total of more than $500,000 for the Mercer County site alone.
