Department of Natural Resources announces $1 million grant for Wright County Public Water Supply District No. 1

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JUNE 29, 2010 –The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded Wright County Public Water Supply District No. 1 grants totaling more than $1 million for sewer system improvements.

The department awarded the district a $145,600 rural sewer grant and an $876,135 state 40-percent grant to use toward the construction of a new wastewater collection and treatment system. The project costs a total of $2.6 million and is expected to be completed in April 2011.

The city will provide matching funds to pay for the project from the Missouri Department of Economic Development, Community Development Block Grant and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development.

The department sold $50 million in bonds in November 2007.  The sale of the bonds allows the department to provide the water district with the funds to support the Clean Water Initiative for water and wastewater improvements. 

The Department of Natural Resources’ Water Protection Program will administer the grant funds.  The department is committed to working closely with communities to assist with funding efforts that support water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects as well as provide a financial savings.
