The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will host an event Aug. 4 in the Cooper County town of Bunceton aimed at helping central Missouri residents rid their homes and farms of unwanted pesticides and related chemicals.

The event is one of several scheduled throughout the summer that will allow Missouri households and farmers to safely and legally dispose of pesticides, fungicides, insecticides, rodenticides, de-wormers, fly tags and fertilizers containing herbicides or pesticides.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cooper County Road Department Shed, located on Highway J in Bunceton. It is open to all residents of Missouri. The next event will be held Aug. 18 in Macon. Event details will be announced as they become available. The Bunceton collection is the fifth of nine such scheduled events that began June 9 in Neosho and will continue as long as funding remains.

More information on the department’s Pesticide Collection Program is available online: The program is funded through a hazardous waste enforcement settlement that resulted in more than $1 million being set aside for the effort. The department has hired an independent contractor to conduct the collection events under the supervision of the department.
