The Missouri State Museum will continue its "Museum after Hours" tours for September with a special program Oct. 3 on "Good Old Fashioned Medicine."

The Missouri State Museum’s "Museum after Hours" events are held the first Wednesday of each month when the museum galleries remain open from 5 to 9 p.m. For the October event, museum staff will present a program on old-fashioned medicine. Have you ever wondered what people did before modern medicine? What tools did doctors use to help people? What medicines did they use for illnesses before antibiotics? Step back into the days of apothecary kits to get an idea what the world of medicine was like in the "olden" days. This program will take place in the museum classroom, which is located in the History Hall (east wing).

The "after hours" opportunity is for those who have wondered what it would be like to visit the museum at night, or whose schedule doesn’t allow daytime outings. In addition to the special program, the event allows the public to view some of the regular exhibits like "Civil War Missouri: A House Dividing," an exhibit that commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. Evening entry to the museum is through the carriage entrance on the south side of the building underneath the grand staircase.

The Missouri State Museum, which is part of Missouri State Parks, is located on the first floor of the Missouri State Capitol. For more information, contact the museum at 573-751-2854.
