The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $100,000 loan to the Cooper County city of Bunceton for installation of an ultraviolet disinfection system to eliminate bacteria from the wastewater treatment plant’s water discharge. Ultraviolet disinfection destroys pathogens to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases to downstream users and the environment.
The loan will be financed through repayments of loans made from Water Pollution Control bonds. The department’s Financial Assistance Center provides funding to assist communities with infrastructure needs for water quality, wastewater and drinking water. A portion of the funding will be targeted toward green infrastructure, water and energy efficiency, and environmentally innovative projects.
The Department of Natural Resources’ Water Protection Program will administer the loan funds and is committed to working closely with communities to support water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects.
