The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is seeking comments on plans to use approximately $35.5 million in federal and state funds designated for improving drinking water systems.

The department will hold a public meeting to discuss the Draft 2014 Intended Use Plan. Members of the public are welcomed to ask questions and offer comments and suggestions on the plan, as well as the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Loan Program and the Set-Aside Programs. The meeting is planned for 10 a.m. on Aug. 16, 2013, at the Lewis and Clark State Office Building, 1101 Riverside Drive in Jefferson City.

Each year, the department prepares a document describing how it intends to make low interest loans available for use in improving drinking water systems. The goals are to improve infrastructure, comply with the Safe Drinking Water Act and protect public health. The interest rate on the available loan funds this year will be approximately 30 percent of the interest rate offered on a market rate loan.

The department is also soliciting comments on both the draft priority point criteria and the draft readiness-to-proceed criteria, which will be used to rank new applications received for fiscal year 2015. The department is proposing some minor changes to these items. The deadline for fiscal year 2015 applications is tentatively set for Feb. 15, 2014.

The department will accept comment until Aug 16, 2013. Comments can be submitted to the department’s Water Protection Program by:

• Mail to the department's Water Protection Program, Attn: Stephen Jones, PO Box 176, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0176;
• Email with the subject line: Intended Use Plan Comments to; or
• Hand deliver to the receptionist at the Lewis and Clark State Office Building, 1101 Riverside Dr., Jefferson City.

The comments should be marked "Attn: Stephen Jones, Water Protection Program."
