Jefferson City, Mo. - The Elizabeth Rozier Gallery will open Thursday, Feb. 21 with an exhibit on President Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War. An opening event for the exhibit will be held at 7 p.m. at the gallery on Jefferson Street.
At the opening event, Justin Dyer with the University of Missouri will give a presentation on the constitutional issues President Lincoln faced during his presidency. That evening, the gallery will be open from 6 until 9 p.m.
Abraham Lincoln was elected the 16th President of the United States in 1860. By the time he took the oath of office, seven states had already seceded from the Union. This exhibition vividly evokes Lincoln’s struggle to resolve the basic questions that divided Americans at the most perilous moment in the nation’s history. “Lincoln: the Constitution and the Civil War” is a traveling exhibition organized by the National Constitution Center and the American Library Association Public Programs Office. The exhibit has been made possible by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
The Elizabeth Rozier Gallery is located in the Union Hotel at Jefferson Landing State Historic Site, 101 Jefferson St., Jefferson City. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jefferson Landing State Historic Site is part of Missouri State Parks.
