Rhineland gets $71,622 for wastewater improvements

Jefferson City, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded the Montgomery County town of Rhineland a $71,622 low-interest loan to upgrade the town’s wastewater treatment plant to eliminate bacteria from its discharge.

The loan would pay for upgrades that would chlorinate the wastewater to kill the bacteria and then remove the chlorine before discharging the wastewater to a local waterway. The project is expected to be completed in April.
This loan will be financed through repayments of loans made from the sale of Water Pollution Control bonds.
The department’s Financial Assistance Center provides funding to communities with infrastructure needs for water quality, wastewater and drinking water. A portion of the funding will be targeted toward green infrastructure, water and energy efficiency and environmentally innovative projects.

The department will administer the loan funds and is committed to working closely with communities to assist with funding efforts that support water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects as well as provide a financial savings.
