Department of Natural Resources seeking Drinking Water Week poster contest entries

Jefferson City, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the American Water Works Association are asking Missouri’s fifth-grade students to tap into their creative side and submit their entries to the annual Drinking Water Week poster contest. This year’s theme is “What do you know about H2O?”

The contest recognizes and celebrates Drinking Water Week, which will be held May 4-10. The annual recognition week is held as a reminder of the importance of safe and plentiful drinking water.

The winning entry will show what the artist knows about H2O by demonstrating the importance of tap water as an essential part of a healthy life. Prizes will be awarded to the top three winners: $300 for first place; $200 for second place, and $100 for third place. Contest entries should be postmarked by March 24, 2014.

Artwork entries should be no larger than 11x17 inches and should include the student’s signature on the front. The student’s name should be on the back of the artwork, along with the name of the teacher and the name, phone number and address of the school. Entries will be judged on originality, concept execution, and how well the poster relates to public water supplies.

Entries should be addressed to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, c/o Susan Bloomer, Public Drinking Water Branch, P.O. Box 176, Jefferson City, Mo 65102. Additional information on the contest and the importance of drinking water is available on the department’s Drinking Water Week Poster Contest web page.

In addition to the 40th anniversary of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, 2014 is also the 40th anniversary of the Safe Drinking Water Act.
