City of Charleston to receive funds to evaluate wastewater concerns

Jefferson City, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $50, 000 grant to allow the city of Charleston to investigate wastewater concerns. The funds, provided through the Small Community Engineering Assistance Program, will be used to hire an engineer to evaluate concerns and identify improvements that could be made to the city’s wastewater collection system.

The report will address documented issues of stormwater runoff infiltrating the wastewater collection system. The project is estimated to cost $70,415 and is expected to be completed in December 2014.

The Department of Natural Resources will administer the grant funds and is committed to working with communities to assist with water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects. The department’s Water Protection Financial Assistance Center assists with funding for communities with water quality, wastewater and drinking water infrastructure needs.
