JEFFERSON CITY, MO, NOV. 9, 2004 - Explore the history, traditions and culture of American hunting at "The Hunt," a special program Nov. 20 at Nathan Boone Homestead State Historic Site near Ash Grove. Sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the program will be held from 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Nathan Boone Homestead State Historic Site preserves the home and grave of Nathan Boone, the youngest son of Daniel Boone and a key figure in opening the West. Like his father, Nathan spent much of his life as a hunter, pursuing beaver, otter, deer and bear in early Missouri. Hunting is only one part of the Boone family story, but it was the part that caught the public's imagination.

Visitors to "The Hunt" will witness this story firsthand as they step into a 19th century hunting camp. Here, they will see the tools and lifestyles of the early hunters, and even witness some of their daily rituals. Visitors will discover how technology, practices and even the hunters' quarry changed throughout the century. They will learn the hunting exploits of the Boone family during this time, and the impact the family had on popular culture. For a small fee, guided tours of the historic site will be available.

Nathan Boone Homestead State Historic Site is located 1.5 miles north of Ash Grove on Highway V.
