JEFFERSON CITY, MO, SEPT. 26, 2005 -- Feel the breeze of a hawk's wing as it flies overhead at the Raptor Awareness Education Program on Saturday, Oct. 8, at Graham Cave State Park near Danville. Sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the event will begin at 2 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
The World Bird Sanctuary from St. Louis will present this interactive program that features live hawks, owls, vultures and falcons. The education component of the program will focus on conservation, respect for all living things, current issues facing raptors and how everyone can make environmentally responsible decisions. While the audience enjoys a close, personal look at these animals, one may just fly inches above their heads. Guests should meet at the park's lower picnic area and bring along a lawn chair or blanket to sit on.
Graham Cave State Park is located two miles west of Danville off Interstate 70 (Exit 170) on Highway TT. For more information about the event, contact the park at 573-564-3476 or the Department of Natural Resources toll free at 800-334-6946 (voice) or 800-379-2419 (Telecommunications Device for the Deaf).
